The cyclone's 75 mph winds crossed eh, the northeast coast of Australia Saturday at Cairns in north Queensland, uprooting trees, damaging houses and destroying a marina. The storm moved down the coast, but heavy rainfall and high wind remain in much of the northern third of the state. Cairns reopened its international airport Sunday after a 24-hour closure.

But the Bruce Highway, the major road link between Cairns and Brisbane, 1,050 miles to the south, was closed in three places south of Cairns.
