ResponsibilitiesThis position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor at a multi-level custody male correctional facility and provides facility maintenance/plumbing support. Job responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Performing journey level duties in the installation, maintenance, and repair of air, gas, water, and waste disposal systems.
• Performing routine work assignments are in the nature of position as well as needed repair, and assignments involving work of special or unusual nature that are accompanied by specific instructions.
• Exercising considerable independence in performance of routine work, but unprecedented assignments are usually discussed with or supervised by foreman.
• Being reviewed by foreman through inspection of work in progress and on the basis of satisfactory operation of equipment repaired or installed.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits with established working hours of Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business need.

Note To Current State EmployeesThe salary grade for this position is NC08 (Salary Range: $36,682 - $64,194). State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

About Central PrisonCentral Prison in Raleigh, NC has been in continuous service since 1884. It serves as the admission point into prison for adult male felons sentenced to 20 years or more and is the main medical and mental health center for male offenders. It also houses special populations, including death row and safe-keepers.

While security requires that certain offenders remain in their cells, there are more than 260 offender job assignments that include working in the kitchen, laundry or canteen. Offenders also work as barbers, janitors and clerks. Offenders can attend substance abuse group therapy meetings, Bible studies or worship services.
