Liverpool transfer news recap - Rodrygo hint, Olmo interest, Leny Yoro bid (2024)

Arne Slot has made his first signing as Liverpool boss, bringing in a key backroom staff member ahead of his tenure officially starting on June 1.

Ruben Peeters will take up the role of lead physical performance coach having worked under Slot at Feyenoord. He follows assistant manager Sipke Hulshoff into the Liverpool dugout.

On a transfer front, the Reds continue to be linked with a move for Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners. The Dutchman worked with Arne Slot at former club AZ Alkmaar and recently helped his current employers to Europa League glory.

Elsewhere, Liverpool are said to be showing an interest in Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville.

Arne Slot could take advantage of Newcastle problem for Liverpool

Arne Slot may have the opportunity to sign a player he previously coached at Feyenoord when he arrives at Liverpool.

Already there are rumours about which players Liverpool could sign during Slot's first transfer window as head coach. One player who has not been directly linked but may be a player of interest to Slot, in particular, is Yankuba Minteh.

Minteh spent this season on loan at Feyenoord from Newcastle United. The 19-year-old had only signed for the Magpies in June last year from Odense before being sent to Feyenoord on loan for the recent campaign, and so is yet to make an official appearance for Newcastle.

Arthur talks over Premier League return after Liverpool loan

Arthur Melo has revealed he wants to return to the Premier League despite flopping at Liverpool last season.

“I think I’m in the form of my life,' Arthur told the Mail. “I’ve got back to my best this season, and I’ve learnt and developed in some really important facets of the game, such as the defensive side and tactically.

“Italian football forces you to be far more disciplined. I’ve also made strides in terms of maturity and on an emotional level. I’m now proud of the Arthur that I am today.

“I’m heading into the final in fine form and couldn’t be feeling any better. I've been really happy with the season; it has gone according to plan.

“In England it was about intensity - to be better than anywhere else - I improved there as well despite not getting the games. Now Fiorentina is more tactical. Every experience has made me more mature, more complete. I place a lot of value on what I have learned.

“I have had some low points in recent seasons, taken a few knocks, that's true but I never doubted myself. I knew I would have the chance to show my game is still very strong. To finish the season with a trophy would be massive.”

PSG make £68m swoop for Liverpool's Mo Salah 'replacement'

Napoli could reportedly lose star attacker Khvicha Kvaratskhelia this summer amid reports linking Liverpool with making a transfer swoop for the player.

In April, Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Bacho Tsalugelashvili claimed that Liverpool were among the Premier League clubs interested in Kvaratskhelia, who it has been suggested could cost in the region of £85million and £102million.

Now, in a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Paris Saint-Germain are claimed to have already tabled an €80million (£68m) bid for the Georgian winger.

"I've always said I want to be at this club, but let's see."

Archie Gray interest

Bayern Munich have registered interest in Leeds' Archie Gray, according to reports.

The versatile midfielder has attracted interest from top clubs after his superb performances with Leeds in the Championship. After they failed to earn promotion to the Premier League, the future of the 18-year-old is in doubt.

According to HITC, Bayern are targeting a move for Gray.

Transfer reality

Hello from the ECHO sports desk.

Just a reminder that many of the links with Liverpool during the current period should be taken with a pinch of salt.

The Reds are in a state of transition behind the scenes and while work will be being done on a number of transfers, that new head coach Arne Slot hasn't mapped out his vision publicly means anyone can realistically be rumoured to be of interest.

Don't forget - agents of some players will be doing their best to bump up interest in their player by throwing in the name of Liverpool.

Gravenberch commits future to Liverpool

Remember when Ryan Gravenberch was linked with a move to Turkey earlier in the season?

Well after Arne Slot's appointment as Liverpool head coach, he's committed his future to the Reds and insisted he was pleased with his first campaign with the club.

“A top club, I hope to play here for years to come. And soon a Dutch trainer with Arne Slot.

“No, I've never spoken to him. Not even during my time as an Ajax player. But he is a trainer who likes attacking football. That should suit me, you would think. We will see.”

Lallana discusses Southampton links

Former Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana could remain in the Premier League for the upcoming season despite leaving Brighton as a free agent.

The 36-year-old has been linked with a return to his boyhood club Southampton, who won promotion back to England's top-flight on Sunday afternoon.

Commenting on such links, Lallana told Sky Sports: "Nothing is concrete at the moment. We'll just have to see what happens. They have had a busy few weeks being in the play-offs, but I was delighted to be at the game and went there as a guest of the football club."

Sepp van den Berg stance

Liverpool have reportedly placed a £20million valuation on Sepp van den Berg after an impressive loan spell with Mainz.

The Dutch defender has spent the last four seasons out on loan, two of which were at Preston, one at Schalke and one at Mainz.

The Athletic have stated there is interest in Van den Berg from Brentford and Southampton and Wolfsburg, though "no decision" has been made on his future as of yet.

Van den Berg joined the Reds for an initial fee of £1.3m in 2019, rising to £4.4m in add-ons.

Mohamed Salah claim

The Saudi Pro League's chief football executive, Michael Emenalo, has admitted Mohamed Salah is the type of player who can "significantly improve" the division.

Salah was the subject of an £150million offer last summer, which Liverpool rejected as they kept hold of their talisman.

Making clear the Egyptian, along with Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne are two players who fit the bill of players the Saudi league are seeking, Emenalo told The Telegraph: "It does help that on a public level, their performance is there, their quality is indisputable…

"All things being equal, which means their clubs, the players, management, our situation, our stakeholders and everybody, these are the type of players that can significantly improve what we’re trying to do. There’s no hiding away from that.”

Dani Olmo dismissed

I wrote a piece on Dani Olmo over the weekend. He's a talented attacking midfielder, capable of playing anywhere behind a striker and has been linked sporadically with Liverpool for a number of years now.

I actually saw him score the winner for Spain in the U21s European Championships final against Germany back in 2019, and followed his progress since.

He's suffered with injuries a bit at RB Leipzig, and there's another rather obvious reason why I can't see him joining Liverpool this summer.

Tom Cavilla

Dani Olmo interest

Liverpool have been named as one of the clubs eyeing a move for RB Leipzig midfielder Dani Olmo this summer.

Olmo, who joined the Bundesliga club in 2020 and signed a new contract until 2027 last summer, provided a total of eight goals and five assists in all competitions last term for his club and has been a key player in recent years.

Mundo Deportivo have claimed he is now a target for Barcelona, a club he spent seven years at during his youth career before joing Dinamo Zagreb.

The above article states Barcelona are leading the way for the 26-year-old, followed by Bayern Munich and Liverpool. Manchester United and Manchester City are also said to have "shown interest".

Van Dijk future

Virgil van Dijk is confident he will part of 'Liverpool 2.0' under new manager Arne Slot.

The Dutch defender is out of contract next summer and is yet to agree a contract extension at the club, the same also applying to Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah.

Opening up on his future at the club, Van Dijk told De Telegraaf: "A new contract hasn’t yet been discussed. That isn’t surprising, because the club was completely busy with the new trainer, the staff and everything. Then it doesn’t make sense to start working with players. You can always talk and we will see how that will go.

“I didn’t feel like this was a farewell conversation and I think he also sees me in Liverpool 2.0. I got the feeling that he’s happy that I’m still there and will be there next season, so that I can help him where necessary. This allows us to achieve success on the field."

Liverpool told to make Kramaric move

Former Liverpool midfielder Igor Biscan has urged the club to sign Hoffenheim forward Andrej Kramaric this summer.

Previously on the books of Leicester City, Kramaric left the Foxes to sign for Hoffenheim in 2016 and has hit double figures in seven of the eight seasons since he permanently signed for the German club.

His best return arrived during the 2020/21 campaign, which saw the 32-year-old score 20 goals and provide six assists in 28 Bundesliga appearances.

Commenting on why Liverpool should be considering a deal for Kramaric, Biscan told OLBG:

At times this season it looked to me that they might need a really good finisher in front of goal. I would go for a proper centre forward, a goal scorer, because they've created so many chances this season and missed a lot. That is the reason they didn’t stay in the title race.

I would love to see Andrej Kramaric at Liverpool, or any Croatian playing at Anfield in a red shirt, it’s always unbelievable. But if he does well at Euros, then who knows? He could be a possibility. They need a good centre forward, someone who is guaranteed 20 odd goals, that's the position that they need to strengthen."

Jarrod Bowen backed

Former West Ham first-team coach Kevin Nolan has named Jarrod Bowen as someone who could replace Mohamed Salah, should the Egyptian leave Liverpool this summer.

Salah has continued to be linked with a move to Saudi Arabia in recent weeks, with his long-term Anfield future yet to be decided.

Speculating over who could fill the void of the forward if he were to exit, Nolan simply responded to BBC Radio 5:"Jarrod Bowen."

Nolan recently left his role as a first-team coach at West Ham following David Moyes' departure from the London Stadium.

James Trafford claim

Liverpool are ready to go "head-to-head" with Newcastle United for the signing of Burnley goalkeeper, James Trafford.

That is the latest suggestion from Football Insider, who state the Clarets have placed a £20million price tag on their shot-stopper following relegation from the Premier League.

The above article adds Caoimhin Kelleher is "increasingly likely" to leave Anfield this summer, increasing the need for investment in this department.

Summerville interest

Liverpool are reportedly nterested in signing Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville this summer.

The Dutchman played a key part in the Whites reaching the Championship play-off final, scoring 19 goals and providing nine assists in the second tier, though could not help Daniel Farke's side over the final hurdle at Wembley at the weekend.

Leeds' failure to secure promotion has now ensured they face a battle on their hands to keep hold of key players, one of which is Summerville.

The Mirror have claimed Chelsea and Liverpool are among the clubs targeting Summerville, who is "unlikely" to want to remain in the Championship.

Koopmeiners latest

Liverpool are said to have turned their attention away from Teun Koopmeiners to one of his Atalanta team-mates, Ederson.

Indeed, Italian outlet Tuttosport have claimed the Reds are preparing an "assault" for the Brazilian, who featured against Liverpool when the sides met in the Europa League last season.

Such a move is set to "please" Juventus as they prepare to see a "dangerous opponent" potentially exit the race for Koopmeiners.
