15 Healthy Pizza Recipes with SmartPoints for Weight Watchers (2024)

Can I eat pizza on Weight Watchers?

Pizza is unquestionably a fan favorite all around the world, whether as a comfort dish or a celebratory food. Of course, who could resist the allure of that delectable crust, tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, and other delectable toppings? However, due to the said ingredients, a slice of pizza might already be rich in calories, salt, and carbohydrates. If you’re on a Weight Watchers program, you already know how important it is to stick to the smart points system when eating. This applies to your pizza desires as well. A standard pizza will undoubtedly consume nearly all of your Smart Points for the day. Though Weight Watchers pizza points can add up to 16 per slice, you can reduce that amount to five by choosing the right toppings and dough. This means that if you’re craving pizza slices, the best thing you can do is prepare them yourself!

The nutritious content of homemade pizza can then be increased by adding nutrient-dense toppings such as vegetables and healthy meats such as grilled chicken. Furthermore, you have complete control over the amount of ingredients used in your pizza!

To begin, making a thinner crust instead of a regular or loaded crust can save you a lot of calories and sodium. And, for added health benefits, a whole-grain crust or gluten-free flours are always a good idea, as they can increase fiber content. For the sauce, you can use unsweetened sauce or a typical red sauce that is high in vitamins A and C to top your pizza.

When it comes to cheese, it’s important to remember that not all cheeses are made equal, so look for low-calorie, low-fat ones like goat cheese or crumbled feta.

Finally, when it comes to toppings, vegetables are always a good choice because they are high in fiber and vitamins. You can also add lean meats like chicken, ham, or lean ground beef, but keep the amount to a minimum.

What is the best pizza for Weight Watchers?

So now you know that you don’t have to give up pizza just because you’re on a Weight Watchers program. In fact, you can continue to enjoy your favorite pizzas from restaurants or when dining out. The New York style pizza is one example. According to the Weight Watchers pizza cheat sheet, one slice of New York-style pizza is the equivalent of more than two ordinary slices, with a value of 14 to 16 SmartPoints. Cutting your New York slice in half reduces the SmartPoints value of your meal to seven to eight points!

The Chicago deep-dish pizza is another example. This pizza has a SmartPoints value of 11 to 15 according to the Weight Watchers pizza cheat sheet. If you want to cut down on the amount of servings, go for the thin crust version. Only eight SmartPoints are worth a slice of simple cheese thin crust pizza. Finally, an Artisan pizza, which has the same toppings as a gourmet pizza, is another option. However, the toppings can be heavy in calories and saturated fat, so ordering a veggie-centric pizza is recommended.
