Ultra Tour Monte Rosa 2021 LIVE At 4AM yesterday the fierce hundred alpine miles started through Switzerland, created by Lizzy Hawker over 171k / D + 11,600m. Champion Oli Jhonson 28h25 and Jasmin Paris in 32h27. This 2021 edition is very special given that the limitations of COVID have advised avoiding the traditional passage to Val d´Aosta in Italy to focus 100% on the Swiss Alps. This is how Oli and Mayayo reviewed his career as soon as he crossed the finish line.

ULTRA TRAIL MONTE ROSA 2021 (SEP1-4)
MONTE ROSA, SECOND ALPINE SUMMIT
The Monte Rosa Massif is located between the Italian regions of Piedmont and the Aosta Valley and in the canton of Valais (Wallis) of Switzerland. Hence, the Ultra Tour Monte Rosa, as you can see in the panoramic map below, is based on the Italian Gressoney and the Swiss Grachen.
It is the largest massif in the Alps and here the second highest altitude in all of Western Europe is reached, after the Mont Blanc massif. The Dufourspitze is the highest peak in the massif and, at 4,634 meters above sea level, also the highest in Switzerland.
It was named after the Swiss general (and great cartographer) Guillaume-Henri Dufour, 1787 – 1875). On Gnifetti Point is the highest mountain refuge in Europe, the Regina Margherita Cabin (at an elevation of 4,554 meters above sea level). UTMR SPECIAL EDITION 170 KMS
From Grächen through Zermatt The race will take the runners on the original UTMR route along the Europaweg to Zermatt, crossing the magnificent 494m long Charles Kuonen Hängebrücke (suspension bridge).
After running though the iconic alpine village of Zermatt you turn into the wild valley leading up to the Zmuttgletscher and climb up to Höhbalmen with its extensive and breathtaking panorama – the north face of the Matterhorn with the Zmuttgrat ridge, the Breithorn, Liskamm and the Monte Rosa massif, the Rimpfischhorn, Alphubel, Taschhorn, Dom…. 4000m summits abound.

ULTRA MONTE ROSA 2021 LIVE :
Those registered for this special edition totaled 203 numbers. Each of them, given the technical nature of the terrain, has a personal satellite tracking device that must be always on. Thus safety in the event of an accident is guaranteed.
The Spanish presence in these 100 miles is represented by only three runners: Prudencio Berrocal, Manuel Muñoz Echeverría and Angel Muñoz Fernández Full list UTMR 2021 100 Miles, here. Among the elite, remember that the 2019 UTMR had Damian Hall and Corine Kagerer as champions.
For this 2021, perhaps two very great runners with extensive track records stand out among the elites present: On the one hand, the American Darcy Piceu, who signed silver in Hardrock 100 this year On the other, Jasmin Paris, absolute champion of the fierce British The Spine Race.
Among the men, illustrious such as the British Oli Jhonson, bronze in the Ultra Canfranc 100km, the Swiss Benoit Guyone, gold in the Bartalay Supertrail or the Pole Jarek Gonczarenko, silver in the 100 miles of Slovenia among others.
ULTRA MONTE ROSA 2021: Race report
After the first 6 hours of the race, the head of the race is already approaching Zermatt, after covering the first quarter of the race. In the lead the Polish Jarek goes, with the ultra veteran Sylvain Reboux second and Oli third. Benoit steps back a bit. So far, all the logic in the world.
The passage of the kms will tell us how they progress and if someone from behind arrives later to pass them. Among the women, Darcy Piceu and Jasmin Paris run hand in hand. Knowing both of the talent of their rival they are marked from the same exit.
In fact, it would not be strange to see them in the absolute top5 or even higher at the finish line. For Jasmin, not even an absolute gold would be a new experience. We are already waiting for the passage through Zermatt after the first 40km.
Jasmin Paris continues to lead in the Zermatt’s second pass at 13:38.03. She barely widens the gap with her rival Darcy Piceu 13h51.48. Still in third position Barbara Szkabula who keeps pace with 14:34.10. The men crossed Saint Nicklaus with the same top three that never falters. 1. Oli Johnson (14.57.27) 2.Sylvain Reboux (3.10.56) and 3. Florian Probst 3.15.16. Benoît is not far behind in fifth position, he continues to give the money back.
From ST NIKLAUS to Torbel the 100 K passed already
The head of the race has passed the 100K after Torbel and 17K that separate these two towns from the Valais. The same trio continues to speed up with Oli Johnson, Sylvain Reboux, Florian Probst followed by James Crossman. Oli Johnson is doing well with 30 minuts in advance from his rivals.
Night begins to fall slowly in the Swiss Alps. It was a very hot day and the coolness of the night little by little will be the next challenge to overcome.
Jasmin Paris leads the race at the female level on her side. She is already crossing through moosalp check point at 19h05 with a Darcy Piceu that is in second position at Jungen point at 18h44. Jasmin is making a gap.
Oli Johnson still few miles to cross the line in Grachen
The first runners are not far from crossing the finish line in Grachen Square. Oli Johnson still dominates the race followed by the Canadian James Crossman and Florian Probst who make their way together. Manuel Munoz, the Spanish leader, is fourth and will pass Saas-Fee.
Jasmin Paris totally dominates the race. She is in 7th position in the general classification, leaving Darcy Piceu behind.
DAWN HEADING TO GOAL
The night has been calm and ‘warm’ for these heights, with the race at more than 2,000m Through the Swiss Alps, the tonic has remained in the lead, with Oli and Jasmine leading solid, like seasoned veterans in these struggles that they are.
The best news is that the Spanish Manuel Muñoz Echeverría has continued to gain positions step by step throughout the career. Now he is fourth on the way to the finish line. We expect the champion in Grachen around 8.30 .
OLI JHONSON CHAMPION 28h25m- Finally, the British Oli Jhonson crossed the finish line of Grachen as champion of these hundred miles through the Swiss Alps.
He did it with the first light of day and there was the race director Lizzy Hawker, a living legend of the ultra trail, to present him with his medal and the Nepalese scarf that every finalist receives.
Following Oli came Florian Probst and James Crossman to complete the podium. We now wait for the fourth at the finish line, Manuel Muñoz Echevarria who is doing a superb race, from less to more.

La británica marchaba sólidamente instalada en el top10, siendo séptima absoluta hasta las últimas rampas.
Finalmente, en el árido tramo final por las pistas de esquí de Seetal o Hannigalp le paso factura y cerró novena en 32h27m

The 2021 newcomer to the family. Wild alpine trails traversing high above the valley floor, holding you captive to the power of the 4000m summits all around. In this 58 km race you explore two of the best, the Gsponer Höhenweg and the Balfrin Höhenweg.
Run from Grachen to Saas Fee along wild alpine trails on an average height over 2.000m, with a vertical climb over 4.000m. Oh! And do it below 15 hours, o you are out. Nice challenge it is….
5- Grächen Berglauf 23K 132O D+
Grächen Berglauf departure Saturday 4th of September at 10.00 am in Grächen Time limit 6 hours 23K Ascent 1320 m
A beautiful and challenging route taking the runners right to the edge of the awe-inspiring Riedgletscher. It’s a tough mountain race and a prior experience of running and hiking on mountain terrain is recommended.

LIZZY HAWKER, RACE DIRECTOR: ULTRARUNNING LIVING LEGEND
Lizzy is a unique global figure of the ultra fund. Five-time champion of the Ultra Trail Mont Blanc, (2007-2008-2010-2011-2012) has also shone in all kinds of long distance events.
She was also the winner of the 246km of the Spartathlon 2012 and third overall. Lizzy even set a world record for 100km on road running, among many other unique achievements of his career.
Not only her track record has made her different, but her passion for experiencing the mountains in all its variants, from helping at the UTMB as one more volunteer when she couldn’t run it.
