EVA (EVE) MARY HOLZ (nee FORMAN) February 19, 1920 - January 13, 2016 With quiet acceptance of her past several years with many health problems, Mom passed away at Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care Unit, with her son and daughter at her side, on Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at the age of 95 years. Mom also struggled with great determination during her many years of vision loss. She was a special person to all who knew her, with all our hearts we will miss her very much. Mom wanted us to say that every day she was thankful for all the care that was given and for the many sacrifices that were made by her son David and daughter Christine Lange (Kerry) and her very special grand-dog, Bailey. She is also survived by and very fond of her nieces, Joyce (Al), Bev and Kay; nephews, Robert (Diane), Doug (Val), Wally (Bonnie), Gerard, Gary (Nikki), Brian (Jeanie) and Blaine; her special cousins, Dode (Ron) and Olga (Bill); many great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Walter, in January 1975; parents, Mary and Frank; and brothers, Stan and Carl. On February 19, 1920, Mom was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. She was three months old when her family moved to Spring Valley, Saskatchewan. It was a life of many pleasures and many hardships. When Mom turned 18, she went back to Moose Jaw to work. When the Second World War began, her brother Stan encouraged her to move to Hamilton, Ontario and through her employment there, she became knowledgeable of ladies' Ready-to-Wear. Because of Hamilton's smog and her asthma, Mom moved to the Muskoka area of Ontario. With the help of her family, she started a small ladies clothing store. There in Orillia, she met and married her much loved Wally in 1947. During her time in Orillia, Mom made many friends. She was a member of the Business and Professional Woman's Club and also a chartered member of Quota International. Mom and Dad then began to move and live in many cities. Dad had been employed with the Singer sewing machine company. They lived in North Bay, Ontario; Ottawa, Ontario; Edmonton, Alberta; and finally settled in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1958. After moving to Winnipeg, they joined the fledging parish of St. John Brebeuf, where Mom volunteered many hours with the Catholic Women's League of Canada. During their years in Winnipeg, Mom and Wally had the opportunity to visit many countries such as Italy, France, Switzerland, Mexico, Bahamas and Bermuda, some of the places were countries that Wally had served in during the war. She also enjoyed the time spent with Kerry and Chris in Mesa, Arizona. Mom had a keen interest in current affairs and loved to talk about anything. She faithfully did the Scrabble' in the paper every Saturday, even when her vision was failing. Funeral Mass will be Celebrated on Monday, January 18, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in St. John Brebeuf Roman Catholic Church, 1707 John Brebeuf Place, Winnipeg, Manitoba, with Rev. Fr. Mark Tarrant, presiding. Interment will follow in Assumption Roman Catholic Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue. Mom wanted a special thanks to be given to all the family and friends who visited, phoned and wrote in the past few years, it brought her much happiness. A special thanks also to the stitch and chat' gals for all the good times and friendships, with Maxine now being the last remaining member. Heartfelt thanks to the Palliative Care program, who looked after mom so well, her primary nurses, Louise and Devinder (and all the other nurses who filled in over the years). Special thanks also to the Palliative Care coordinator, Mary Ashcroft and the caring and excellent staff on the Palliative Care unit 3E at Riverview Health Centre, words cannot express our gratitude. Also a big thank you to the wonderful supportive home care workers, especially Merlin, Celeste and Kate, who were always there for her, and to Donna, for helping us along the way for many years. The visits from the church people offered her support and comfort, thank you Tom. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to a charity of one's choice or to the St. John Brebeuf School Bursary Fund, 605 Renfrew Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3N 1J8. Mom, you can now rest."

Chris, my condolences on losing your Mom - though she lived a very long life, you will miss her. Best, Joan - Posted by: Joan Flood (Went to SJB with Christine and David) on: Jan 30, 2016

  • I have known Chris for many years since our working days at Misercordia Hospital. During that time I have had the pleasure of meeting her mother and brother David.
