Healthy Tortilla Pizza (1)

Oh hey friend you CAN lose weight and eat pizza too! In fact, when I was losing weight I never deprived myself of foods I loved. Restriction does not work in the longer term. I mean even if you restrict a food while you're losing weight, are you really never going to eat that food again? That's what you'd have to do to keep the weight off.

I always teach my clients NOT to restrict. Instead, I encourage they look for ways to better balance pizza or make swaps that are lighter with healthier ingredients. That's what I did in 2009 and it's worked!

Healthy Tortilla Pizza

This yummy tortilla pizza is a healthier way to get your pizza fix. Also, a great way to stick to your healthy routine without feeling deprived or restricted. I swapped the pizza crust for a gluten free brown rice tortilla that has more fiber.

Fiber is important for a healthy diet (I talk about this in my free weight loss training) and brown rice tortillas generally have more than a white or whole wheat tortilla. I also find the flour based ones tend to have added sugar in them.

What You Need

  • Brown Rice Tortilla
  • Pizza Sauce, sugar free
  • Turkey Pepperoni, sugar free
  • Spinach, Mushrooms or veggies of choice
  • Low Moisture Mozzarella

What ingredients do you put on a healthy pizza

First, what is pizza? Carbs and fat. Probably the worse combination of food to eat if weight loss is your goal. I talk about this in detail in my free weight loss training!

So when you think about pizza I want you to think about adding not taking away.

Add protein protein protein! I can't stress enough the importance of protein not only for weight loss but a healthy diet. Sugar free turkey pepperoni, sugar free sausage, shredded chicken, or even grass-fed grass-finished ground beef.

Next add all the veggies! Whatever you enjoy as far as veggies, chop 'em up and load 'em up! If you can't fit it on the pizza, add a salad and eat it on the side with the pizza.

Healthy tortilla options

I recommend brown rice tortillas as opposed to traditional flour tortillas for a healthy, lighter and more filling pizza. They have more fiber and are hardier. Other quesadilla options I recommend are cassava flour or cashew (like Siete) or cauliflower or sweet potato ones.

As always, check the ingredients and nutritional values. Even some Paleo, cauliflower and sweet potato tortillas that I've seen have had questionable ingredients in them. Ensure the ingredients are recognizable, there's no chemicals or added sugar.

Now that you know how to eat pizza in a healthier way...let's eat!
