Healthy Chinese Chicken Salad (1)

I don't know about you, but I can never say no to a Chinese Chicken Salad. It was one of my favorite, easy lunches growing up.

Fun fact! I worked in China for a year and never saw of or heard of Chinese Chicken Salad anywhere.

Suffice to say, I believe this Asian style salad was likely an American idea that's grown popular over the years and I'm not complaining!

Healthy Chinese Chicken Salad

This healthy Chinese chicken salad has all the flavor without all the calories! It's made with tons of fresh produce, chicken, oranges and a simple coconut amino based dressing.

A little sweet, a little sour, a little crunchy and a lot nourishing. This salad has a little bit of everything and comes together in a crazy delicious way that's ridiculously filling!

How To Lighten Up Chinese Chicken Salad

Traditional Chinese chicken salads generally are made with a lot of oil or are fried in oils like sesame oil. This recipe uses healthy extra virgin olive oil in a moderate amount so that it still has healthy fat, just not as much!

Also, Chinese chicken salads often contain fried wontons which again are higher in carbs, fat and calories. I'm not saying those can't be incorporated into a healthy, low calorie diet but that omitting them is one way to reduce the overall calories.

I also use a TON more PRODUCE in this low calorie Chinese Chicken Salads to make it more filling and nourishing. Produce when combined with the right amount of protein and fat surprisingly, is filling and satisfying.

Most of us overlook the importance of produce and adding more of it to our basic recipes. The best part is its naturally low in calories so, eat up!

How To Meal Prep Chinese Chicken Salad

This salad recipe is great served as a dinner side salad, appetizer, party side or meal prepping for any easy lunch!

If meal prepping for your lunch or ahead of time, I recommend storing the dressing, oranges and salad separately and tossing to combine when ready to eat. This will prevent the salad from getting soggy!

See the recipe card for more notes on substitutions. Enjoy friends!
