The FFXIV Hunting Log is a great source of early-level EXP and good practice when picking up a new class. Each base class has five ranks and there are enemies of varying types for you to take down. Below, you will find all the guides for all the FF14 classes. You can also use the nearby search box to find specific enemies. So let’s dive a bit deeper!

What is the FFXIV Hunting Log?

If you’re a newer player, maybe recently joined the FFXIV Free Trial, then you may wonder what the Hunting Log is.

It is a separate item in the “logs” menu where you’ll find a list of enemies to defeat. Every “base” class/job in FFXIV has one. These are the original classes with A Realm Reborn, rather than standalone classes added with subsequent expansions.

This is divided between Ranks (1-5) and Difficulty Levels. Rank 1 has Difficulty Levels 1-10, Rank 2 has Difficulty levels 11-20 and so on.

How Do I Clear a Hunting Log Rank?

To clear a difficulty rank, you must defeat the listed enemies while fighting as the relevant class. In most cases, you will need to defeat more than one of a type of enemy, but the log gives you that number. Once you have defeated the right number of each type of foe within a rank, you will clear it.

EXP

The most tangible way they aid you is the extra FFXIV Hunting Log Guides (2) EXP they give you. Once you clear a difficulty level, you are rewarded with more EXP. This is on top of that which you earn in the defeating of those enemies. Furthermore, once you clear an entire rank, you receive a huge amount of bonus EXP too.

Other Reasons

Other reasons you should complete your FFXIV Hunting Log are:

  • Practice: if you’re new to the class, there’s no better way to learn it than to dive into some mobs.
  • Enemy Attack Variations: because the log pitches you against a huge variety of enemies, it helps you to learn how different foes fight.
  • Completionism: are you unable to rest with a brand new list that has unticked items? I’m not…

These are the classes where I have completed some or all of the Ranks. As of mid-June 2023, I only have the Rogue Hunting Logs and one Arcanist one remaining. Getting really close now!

Grand Company Hunting Logs

Once you join a Grand Company (a necessary part of the ARR MSQ, through the quest FFXIV Hunting Log Guides (48) A Hero in the MakingFFXIV Hunting Log Guides (49)), a new part of your Hunting Log opens up. This is not limited by job or level.

If you want to achieve some promotions within your GC, it will be necessary to clear levels of your Grand Company Log. Some of those targets are in dungeons, too. Lastly, unlike the class logs, the GC ones grant Seals instead of EXP.

TL;DR Make Sure You Clear Your FFXIV Hunting Log

Though there’s no specific requirement or prerequisites fulfilled by completing your FFXIV Hunting Log, it is a great source of FFXIV Hunting Log Guides (53) EXP. And if you’re a newish player then it acquaints you really quickly as to the location of certain enemies.

If you have anything to input or questions, do feel free to chat to me over on Twitter or Mastodon. I’m no expert in all things FFXIV, but I do love the game and can usually point you to resources that’ll help too. Take care and have fun with your Hunting Logs!

I have been playing MMOs for about ten years and began writing guides to The Lord of the Rings Online in 2017. I've only been creating content about Final Fantasy XIV since 2022, but I am glad for the mix. My current games include LOTRO, FFXIV and the occasional Palia session too.
